Canada Drive - Proposed Residential Development - Meeting
The Parish Council has arranged a public meeting to discuss the recent proposal for housing on Canada Drive. The meeting will take place at the Village Hall on Thursday, 11th April 2024 at 7.30pm, all residents are invited to attend. We have received confirmation that Risby Homes will attend the meeting to discuss any concerns.
Dog Fouling
Incidents of Dog Fouling
We have received reports of increased incidents of dog fouling on footpaths around the village.
We can confirm that all East Riding of Yorkshire Council litter bins may be used for disposing of bagged up dog waste collected whilst walking your dog. If anyone leaves bags of dog waste on trees, bushes, the base of a lamp post etc. they are committing a littering offence that may also be punished by way of a £75 fixed penalty being issued.
The great majority of dog walkers do pick up after their dog and get really annoyed with the few who don’t as they don’t want to be “tarred with the same brush.” There is no excuse for not picking up.

Christmas Lights 2023
The Christmas Lights switch on will take place on Saturday, 9th December 2023. A road closure will be in place between 4pm and 6pm. West bound traffic will be diverted around The Meadows and east bound traffic around Canada Drive.
The installation of the lights will take place at 10.30am on Saturday, 2nd December 2023. We are looking for volunteers to help with this installation and the cut back of some overgrown vegetation. If you are able to help, please contact the Clerk at cherryburtonpc@gmail.com
Household Support Fund for Oil Heating
The Household Support Fund aims to help vulnerable households in the East Riding with the rising cost of heating oil. Grants will be awarded to eligible residents and is aimed at low income households.
Please note that this fund is only available to East Riding residents.
On application if eligible, households will receive an oil delivery or the LPG alternative and free membership to the Bulk Oil Buying Scheme for the first year (normally £20 per year).

Notice is hereby given that The East Riding of Yorkshire Council intends not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order, the effect of which will be to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along Etton Road, Cherry Burton & Cherry Burton Road, Etton (between the junction of Main Street, Cherry Burton & Main Street, Etton) commencing Tuesday 19 September 2023 to enable carriageway repair works taking place.
The Road Closure is necessary to enable the works to be carried out in a manner consistent with ensuring the safety of the public. The Order is valid for 18 months, but it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 20 September 2023.
The alternative route for traffic affected by this closure will be via Main Street, Etton, B1248 Etton Dikes, B1248 Malton Road & Main Street, Cherry Burton. Access will be maintained for Resident’s access, the Emergency Services & Pedestrian’s only (as far as practical during the closure).

Household Support Fund for Oil Heating.
The government's Household Support Fund will help vulnerable households with the rising cost of heating oil. Humber and Wolds Rural Action (HWRA) have been awarded funding from East Riding Council to offer grants to eligible residents in East Yorkshire.
On application if eligible, households will receive an oil delivery of approx. 500 litres and free membership to the YORSwitch Bulk Oil Buying Scheme for the year. (normally £20 per year).

Funding approved for new Play Park in Cherry Burton
The children in Cherry Burton are set to get a new Play Park facility thanks to a £34,030.00 grant from FCC Communities Foundation. The total investment will be £50,630.00 with a contribution from the Parish Council of £16,600.00.
The money will be used to buy additional new equipment which includes a Multiplay Unit, Wheelchair Accessible Roundabout, Double Perch and a Metal Nest Swing to complement the current play facilities. There will be a soft rubber floor surface under and around the equipment. The new play area is situated opposite the village pond in the centre of the village.
Councillor John Wilson, Chairman of Cherry Burton Parish Council believes the facility will make a huge difference to the children living in Cherry Burton and surrounding villages. John hopes the new Play Park will be open by April. He says “This project will provide a huge boost to the children of Cherry Burton. It is fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we are really looking forward to our new Play Park taking shape over the next 4 months.”

Canada Drive Planning Application
Residents should be aware that the deadline is tomorrow (7/10/2022) for comments on the 'renewed' planning application for 30+ houses on land to the East of Canada Drive . The application can be found on the East Riding Council website under application reference 22/02892/OUT. The Parish Council has made objections, based primarily on the same grounds as for the previous application, with inadequate/inappropriate access to the site from the Canada Drive cul-de-sac and inadequate foul (sewage) drainage provision as the main reasons for objection.

KCOM VILLAGE BROADBAND UPDATE 15th Feb '22
Since the Business case was approved in December last year, the planning teams have now completed their work.
The main build activities are due to start early April and complete in June with all the addresses released for ordering in July.

The recent Parish Council campaign to encourage more village residents to pre-register with KCOM to improve our chances of getting a share of the funding available to improve rural broadband has paid dividends.
The KCOM business case to bring full fibre broadband to the village has been approved.
Detailed planning is now underway which will inform the Parish of the expected build start date, likely early part of next calendar year.
This is great news and will hopefully improve the broadband capabilities of the whole village.

NEWSFLASH -12th Oct ‘21
This week KCOM gave the Parish Council a further update on the number of new village broadband registrations received recently to enable the village to qualify for a major investment in “Project Gigabit”, currently the most promising solution to get fast broadband throughout the village.
The good news is that the total now, minus duplicates is c.118 which is c.28% rate of pre-registrations to counted properties.
We are almost there but we need to reach 30% to get to the investment threshold. If you haven't already signed up and want fast broadband please sign up at the registration page below.
As a reminder, KCOM will be using a gigabit voucher scheme (GBVS) to support build costs and would require the applicable addresses to sign-up to the scheme – more details will follow should the commercial case be approved.

The aim being to get as many people pre-registered on the KCOM website as possible that are interested in either, as an existing customer upgrading to full fibre, or being a new KCOM customer and switching from another provider.

Parish Council Update – Real Fibre Broadband for Cherry Burton (20th Aug '21)
The Parish Council understands that there are currently no plans for BT to install a fibre optics network to Cherry Burton in the foreseeable future.
Currently, the only way in which residents are likely to be able to achieve higher broadband speeds is through the KCOM fibre network “Project Gigabit” scheme.
KCOM are developing a £100M expansion plan for Hull, East Riding and some adjacent counties to upgrade houses to "Fibre to the Premises" (FTTP) by March 2022, a big improvement on current Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) Light Stream services. However, following recent communication with the Parish Council, it is understood that KCOM’s real fibre broadband rollout in Cherry Burton is now under review.
Although some areas of the village have Light Stream a more complete upgrade could come if more demand is stimulated. This applies equally to outlying areas e.g. High Gardham, Malton Rd., York Rd. etc.
A pre-registration voucher scheme for communities is aimed at attracting this infrastructure funding, but the whole village needs to achieve a 30% minimum interest threshold (subject to Commercial review). Project Gigabit - KCOM Real Fibre Broadband coming to Cherry Burton.
The following is an extract of information provided by KCOM to Cherry Burton Parish Council recently to explain their plans;
The Government is aiming to achieve a target of 85% broadband coverage across the country by 2025 and they are funding a voucher scheme for rural upgrades i.e., up to £1,500 for private consumers, £3,000 for business users. Broadband speeds of up to 1 Gbps will be possible hence the name “Project Gigabit”.
On the back of this target KCOM are developing a £100M expansion plan for Hull, East Riding and some adjacent counties such as N. Lincs. and N. Yorks which will upgrade houses to "Fibre to the Premises" (FTTP) by March 2022. This is a big improvement on current Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) Lightstream services.
The pre-registration voucher scheme for communities is aimed to achieve a threshold of 30% consumers in order to attract this infrastructure funding and interested users in outlying rural areas are asked to pre-register here http://www.kcomhome.com/preregister
Cherry Burton village is being upgraded later this year and if there are pockets of interest in outlying areas e.g. High Gardham, Malton Rd., York Rd. etc then they will also attract investment if they achieve the 30% interest threshold. Some areas of the village already have Lightstream FTTC and FTTP but a more complete upgrade is coming this Aug/Sept/Oct, so watch out for the media rollout from Aug.
KCOM have several schemes open to provide local funding for community investment such as Community Chest, Community grants and KCOM Kits for local teams. The schemes are already open for applicants and there is a voting arrangement whereby the community makes the choice between applications.

Temporary Road Closure (Newbald Lodge Road, Cherry Burton)
ERYC have given notice that there will be a road closure in the vicinity of High Gardham prohibiting any vehicle from proceeding along
Newbald Lodge Road, Cherry Burton starting at the junction with A1079 for 1600m commencing 12th July
2021 to allow carriageway works for the Openreach underground network.
It is anticipated that the works will be completed within 12 days.
The alternative route for traffic affected by the road closure will be via:
Newbald Lodge Road, Stoneknowle Hill, Beverley Road, Eastgate, Galegate, Westgate, Sands Top, Beverley
Lane, Hessleskew Lane and York Road and vice versa. The diversion route will be signed at the time of closure.
The road will be closed to all traffic but access will be maintained for emergency vehicles, residents and
pedestrians.

Malton Road (B1248) Village entrance
Further to the recent roadworks, East Riding of Yorkshire Council have confirmed that they will be seeding the verges and re-instating the stone village entrance sign as soon as weather conditions improve.
Controlling Large Vehicle Traffic through the village
Further to the Parish Council’s and residents’ concerns about large vehicles cutting through the village, East Riding of Yorkshire Council have agreed to erect a new sign on the B1248 discouraging HGVs from using the village as a shortcut to the A1079.
Dog poo on the MUGA
This afternoon a Councillor has been up to the MUGA as children reported dog poo on the MUGA which has now been cleared up.
We all have duty of care to keep our children safe and they should not be exposed to dog faeces especially in areas of play.
Two weeks ago there were comments from the junior football team that they had to clear the pitch of dog excrement before they could play football. Not only have owners ignored the signs requesting that dogs should NOT be on the playing field, but they have also clearly failed to clean up after their dogs when they have been there.
The Parish Council have rented a specific dog walking field, and dogs can be exercised within the nature walk areas so no dogs should be on the sportsfield let alone on the MUGA. (30th Dec 2020)
Bishop Burton Road access to the Village
The Parish Council have contacted the ERYC expressing their concerns about the danger of large vehicles using Bishop Burton Road as access into the village, due to the current road closure at the crossroads.
They responded that Bishop Burton Road is not the signed diversion route and they can’t prevent vehicles using it unofficially. Also, the bollards are in place to mark a large rut at the side of the road. There is a scheme in the pipeline to widen, kerb and resurface the section through the bends and they are just awaiting for the funding to become available
They did suggest that residents use the area with care and to use Etton Road as alternative access now that the work on the TROD has been completed.
Main Street Road Closure
ERYC Streetscene Services (Highways) have today given notice of Main Street road closure leading to the Malton Road crossroads commencing Wednesday 9 December 2020 to enable emergency drainage works to take place safely. It is anticipated that the works will be completed by 24 December 2020.
The alternative route for traffic affected by the closure will be via the remainder of Main Street,
Cherry Burton, Highgate, Dunken Hill, York Road (A1079), Beverley Road (A1079), Dog
Kennel Lane and Malton Road, Cherry Burton.
Access will be maintained for the Emergency Services & pedestrians only.

Drainage Works to Malton Road/Main Street crossing
We have today been informed by ERYC working on the drainage at the Malton Road/Main Street crossing that they will be temporarily removing the stone built Cherry Burton village sign to allow them to continue the works along the side of the road. This work is to improve drainage from the junction to the Church.
The sign will be reinstated when works are complete.

Notification of up-coming Main Street: Drainage Works - from Mon. 26th October 2020 and associated up-coming Speed Reduction to 30mph for Malton Road.
The Parish Council has been informed by ER Infrastructure & Facilities of up-coming drainage works scheduled to commence Monday 26th October 2020 and expected to be completed by 4 December 2020 (however please be aware the works may be delayed in the event of unforeseen circumstances encountered or poor weather conditions).
The works involve the replacement of the existing highway drainage carrier drain and road gullies serving the section of Main Street from approximately to the east of Cherry Burton Hall to Malton Road crossroads and it is proposed to undertake the works under temporary traffic signal control.
Highway Maintenance have also informed us that there is to be a temporary speed reduction to a maximum of 30 mph for Malton Road (between Rootas Lane Junction & Dog Kennel Lane Roundabout) whilst these works take place. See attached the Notice & Plan .

Appeal Decision
On 19 May 2020, an Appeal by Mr Berrington & Miss Easter against a Judgment made by HHJ Richardson last year in the County Court at Hull was heard by Mr Justice Lavender.
The Appeal was dismissed.
HHJ Richardson last year determined that the electrical power supply boxes next to the Village Pond are situated on land owned by the Parish Council. That decision has been upheld following the dismissal of the Appeal.
The Parish Council is now working with its legal advisors to hopefully bring this matter to a conclusion once and for all.
Community Speed Watch
Community Speed Watch allows residents, particularly those in rural communities, to become police-trained volunteers monitoring vehicle speeds in their communities, with the aim of changing the behaviour of some road users who drive above the speed limit through small towns and villages.
Cherry Burton Parish Council is currently on the waiting list to undertake the scheme, once the current restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, the organisers have asked if suitable areas in the village can be identified in advance to expedite things once the lockdown is lifted.

Call for volunteers and the identification of those in need during the Coronavirus Pandemic
During the Coronavirus pandemic there may be times when you or your neighbours require basic amenities such as food or medicines but are unable to leave your house.
This may be because you are under going self-isolation or are too sick.
Conversely, you may be feeling well and have some time to help people in the village by doing some essential food shopping or medicine collection.
The Parish Council have created a web page HERE
which will enable people to ask for help if required or to volunteer their time to help others.
The register will be held by the Clerk to the Parish Council and all personal information will be strictly controlled in accordance with privacy laws.
Cherry Burton COVID-19 Support Group
Representatives from the Parish Council, St. Michael’s Church and the Open Door Community Café had their inaugural meeting today (16th March) to discuss providing a village community response to the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Cherry Burton COVID-19 Support Group’s aim will be to provide ongoing help and resources to those in need, and will meet on a regular basis.
A list of helpers and those requiring help during self-isolation is being compiled centrally and further information on the group’s activities will be circulated through all available village media by the weekend.
Planning Sub Committee Meeting 24th March
The East Riding Planning Sub Committee met yesterday to discuss the planning application for 37 houses off Canada Drive.
Two verbal objections were lodged on behalf of Cherry Burton residents plus another speaker who supported the development.
The Planning Committee decided that they needed more information and planned to visit the site before a final decision is taken which will be at their March meeting.

To address recent uncertainty on Facebook about Cherry Burton’s element of Council Tax, the information below may help to clarify the situation;
The Parish Council set the village precept for 2020-2021 at £30,000.
This precept will mean that for a property in Band D the Cherry Burton Parish Council component of the total Council Tax bill will be £52.48 for the year from April 2020.
This is a reduction of £88.17 (£1.69 per week) or 62.7% compared to the current year (2019-20).

For 2019-2020 the precept demand was £80,000 which equated to £140.65 for a Band D property, and;

Positive Activities Grant 2020 - working with young people
The Positive Activity Grant (PAG) from ERYC (Youth and Family Support) is being publicised, where £40,000 is available to support working with young people aged 9+.
ERYC are very keen to have applications from local Town and Parish Councils to start youth projects across East Riding.

Public Meeting

ERYC Grants for Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International race.
ERYC have announced the establishment of a new small grant fund for Town or Parish Councils.

The Fund will open on 1 August 2019 and provide support for community activities associated with the forthcoming Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International race. The race is part of the 2019 UCI Road World Championships and will start in Beverley and pass through your parish/town on Saturday 21 September.
Eligible applicants are those Town and Parish Councils along the route of the race in the East Riding, and further details can be found in the attached letter. A map of the route (showing the eligible parishes) is also attached for your information. The Fund can help with the cost of community events relating to the race (e.g. street decorations, themed artwork, refreshments for spectators etc.) and applicants can apply for a maximum of £500 and a minimum of £100 per project.

Judgment was today handed down by HHJ Richardson in relation to a claim previously issued by two residents of Cherry Burton parish against the Parish Council, a two-day trial of the claim taking place in March 2019.
The Parish Council is pleased that the Court has determined that two electrical boxes at the heart of the dispute, which have, since they were installed in 2000, been used amongst other functions, to provide power for the Cherry Burton Christmas lights, are situated upon land owned by the Parish Council, as the Parish Council has at all times maintained is the case.
As a formal order reflecting the terms of the judgment has not yet been made by the Court, the Parish Council do not consider it appropriate to make any further comment at this time.

2019-2020 Council Tax Precept for Cherry Burton
The Parish Council has in the 2019-20 Council Tax precept had to make financial provision relating to an unusual potential liability.
This has, regrettably, resulted in a significant increase in the Council Tax precept.
The Parish Council is unable to comment further at this time.

Road Closure - Main Street from 19th Sept
Please find linked below a Notice & Alternative Routing Map from Highways Maintenance showing a temporary up-coming road closure for Main Street, Cherry Burton.
This is to enable reinstatement works to take place.
The road will be open for resident’s access, the Emergency Services and Pedestrians only.
The road closure order commences from Wednesday 19th September but is likely to complete on the same day.

Etton Road TROD Surface Information
The loose stones on the surface of the TROD are due to it not having been rolled yet.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council can only do this once there has been a period of rain and, given the exceptional hot weather recently, this has not been possible.
Now that there has been rain ERYC are planning to finish the work and this should result in the surface bonding together.

Grand Footpath Opening
The footpath (or 'trod') along Etton Road is now under construction and due for completion by 8th June.
This is thanks to funding from the European Union LEADER programme and Cherry Burton Parish Council, and will provide safe walking access from the village to the Hudson Way and beyond.
An official launch is being planned for Sunday 10th June at 2.30pm.

Cherry Burton resident honoured for his services to the Community
CHAIRMAN’S COMMUNITY AWARD - INDIVIDUAL
Winner: Tony Baker – Cherry Burton
Tony Baker has done an enormous amount of voluntary work for the benefit of Cherry Burton residents. He is a member of the Sports Field Management Committee and has accessed grants to plan and build the multi-purpose games area (MUGA).
Tony is on the tennis club committee and spends hours checking the courts, the multi-use games area and the outside gym and carries out any maintenance needed. He has also obtained funding to renovate the toilets which now include four new toilets and hand-washing facilities.
Tony is concerned about the environment and ensures the trees, hedges, paths, and parking areas are well maintained. He put up bird and owl boxes around the cricket pitch and the allotments and has planted meadow flowers.
He has been instrumental in fundraising for refurbishment of the tennis courts by arranging race nights, quiz nights, tombolas and stalls at the village show.
Tony said: “I never expected to win this at all – I’ve never won anything in my life before!
“I feel elated, proud, privileged and honoured to have won. I didn’t know that I had been nominated until I had a letter so say I was being considered.
“We are in the process of refurbishing the pavilion in Cherry Burton so maybe this award will go some way to help raise the profile and the money we need to complete the project.”

TROD Grant Approved
Cherry Burton Parish Council is pleased to announce that the TROD for Etton Road is now approved
The Parish Council application for Rural Development Funding for England (RDFE) 2014-2020 LEADER grant funding has been successful and is for a grant to create a 600m trod (compacted hard-core path) to provide a safe off-road path linking the village with its Public Right of Way, the Hudson Way on the east verge of Etton Road.
The chosen supplier is ERYC Highways Construction who will start work in early May (after the Tour of Yorkshire) and complete by the end of May.

LEADER funding is jointly provided through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development ("EAFRD") and by the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs ("DEFRA").
30th March 2018 – Owl boxes installed at the Sportsfield
In order to increase the likely hood of getting barn owls nesting at the Sportsfield we are advised that having two nest boxes in the near vicinity of each other improves the likely hood that one of them will get used.
HMP Humber have built a barn owl box for us and we are grateful to Bishop Burton College for erecting a platform on which the nest box will stand
We will keep you updated if we are successful in attracting a nesting pair of barn owls.
Cherry Burton Fairtrade Fortnight 2018
Great excitement this year as not only did we say ‘Come on In to Fairtrade’ but we also celebrated our 15th Birthday as a Fairtrade Village!
Two fabulous Fairtrade Birthday cakes were ceremonially cut and shared at the Fairtrade breakfast after a delicious feast produced by farmers from Fairtrade co-operatives and from Yorkshire. The place was abuzz with over 80 happy breakfasters keeping the volunteers very busy. Choices of Fairtrade coffee and Yorkshire bacon butties in home baked rolls went down very well. Milk donated by CherryView and coffee donated by Percol was much appreciated and enabled us to donate over £200 to the Fairtrade Foundation from this event alone.
Media interest started before Christmas with plans for a February feature on Fairtrade in Cherry Burton. This was in a large format local glossy magazine, ‘The Journal’ which has a wide circulation. BBC local radio also got in touch to find out what Cherry Burton was up to. They broadcast several live interviews with event organisers during the Fortnight. A preview of ‘Come On In to Fairtrade in Cherry Burton’ was published in Beverley Life, the monthly local paper. They attended a number of events and plan a full report in the April edition.

Beverley's Satellite Villages - Exhibition at the Guildhall
The Beverley Community Museum in the Beverley Guildhall is running a programme of temporary exhibitions on various social history topics for Beverley and the surrounding area.
The latest exhibition, which is called "Beverley's Satellite Villages" includes information on Cherry Burton.
The Beverley Guildhall is located in Register Square, Beverley, adjacent to the main post office. They are open from 10am to 4pm every Friday, 10am to 1pm every Wednesday until 30 April and 10am to 4pm every Wednesday from 2 May, always with free admission.
There is an additional opportunity to visit on Saturday 7 April when they are open for the New Paths Music Festival. The exhibition runs from 21 March to 13 July.
Cherry Burton Sportsfield Celebrates National Bird Box Week

The Cherry Burton Sportsfield Committee are delighted to be involved with National Bird Box week.
Bishop Burton College surveyed the site and, in conjunction with HMP Humber who supplied 24 small bird boxes plus a barn owl box, a team of students arrived on site and erected the nest boxes in the most appropriate positions.
Different designs of boxes have been erected to attract different species of small birds. The College will regularly re-visit the site to record the occupancy and species of the birds using the boxes. We will report their findings later in the year.
Wild Flowers
We are now benefiting from the bluebells and snowdrops planted in the woodland in 2017 .This year we have ordered additional English bluebells and cowslips, these will be planted in the spring to flower in 2019.

MPs and LORDS publish Livestock Worrying report
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare has revealed an increase in dog attacks on livestock which is costing farmers millions of pounds and causing great distress.
In a ground breaking report released today, November 16 2017, the Group has released new data on dog attacks on livestock which shows the growing problem of incidences of livestock worrying by dogs.
The report has recommended that more is done to ensure dog owners recognise the risk their dog may pose to other animals so they can take measures to prevent incidents such as ensuring dogs cannot escape from the home, using the lead where needed, looking out for signs warning of grazing livestock and attending training classes.
Some of the other significant recommendations were:
• dog owners can mitigate risk through adequate soclialisation and training behaviours to ensure dog and animal safety
• farmers and local authorities can take measures to help prevent worrying and attacks
• farmers should report all attacks and worrying to to the police
• the police should improve the consistency of their response as well as recording and publishing numbers of incidents
• DEFRA should support specific updates to relevant legislation where this is found to be required such as a better definition of ‘livestock’
• DEFRA should regulate the industry of animal behaviour and training to ensure that pet owners can find reputable professionals to help them.
• Dog organisations should produce consistent information for dog owners which can be disseminated through veterinary practices and pet shops
New Library Service - Short Stay Route 16 (Mon)
After a period of consultation, East Riding Library Service has launched a new streamlined Mobile Library Service from October 2017. The new service is significantly different from the previous offer and the sites visited may have changed in frequency, duration or day of the week for the library visits.
For Cherry Burton the service will be typically monthly on selectedMondays at The Pond, Main Street 2.45 pm - 4.15 pm

Telephone Box Book Swap Grand Opening
On Tuesday 24th October the Parish Council Chairman James Slingsby, Cherry Burton Rainbows with Sue Smith and Friends of the Telephone Box all came together to cut the ribbon and open the Book Swap to the Public.
Situated outside the shop the decommissioned telephone box has for some time been lovingly cleaned, painted and fitted with book shelves by a dedicated group of volunteers led by Mike Ralphs and Jim Smith to make it an inviting place to swap books.
It is open to all the public.

Acklams Bus Service 142
Please note that Acklams will be operating an additional journey on this service from Tuesday 5th Sept. 2017 which leaves the Sow Hill Bus Station at 1710 serving Cherry Burton and Etton.
Killingwoldgraves Roundabout Works
A highway improvement scheme is planned to commence on the A1079 Killingwoldgraves roundabout on 11th September 2017 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.
The scheme involves widening the A1079 leg from Hull along with the A1174 and A1035 legs to provide longer two lane approaches and entries to the junction, also providing two lanes for circulation on the roundabout itself. The scheme aims to reduce the queues and congestion currently forming on the approaches to the roundabout, improving journey times and journey time reliability along the A1079 and other road corridors passing through the junction.

Are you in need of additional security measures in your home such as: Additional locks for doors and windows, Door Chains, Door Viewers, Window Alarms or Security Lights?
To qualify for assistance applicants must be:
• Aged over 60 or disabled
• A homeowner or private sector tenant / Housing Association tenant.
Everyone living in the property must not have a bank balance, when added together, of over £5,000.
Further grants will not be made to anyone receiving support from the Safe and Sound grant scheme in the last two years

New 4G Telecom Mast for Cherry Burton
Cherry Burton Parish Council has been successful in securing agreement from ERYC to erect a 4G telecom mast for the village.
A Planning Application has been submitted and approved and our partners Shared Access will be erecting the 22 ½ m mast during September.
The mast location will be behind the tree copse w. of the football pitches.
Network operators will be Vodafone and Telefonica.
N.U.R.S.E. Join MP To Visit Latest Sites To Install Defibrillators

A local Charity and MP Graham Stuart have been out to see the latest defibrillators to be installed in the area thanks to their joint efforts.
N.U.R.S.E. who helps fund the project joined the MP as they visited locations in Beverley, Cherry Burton and Lund who have all recently installed defibrillators.
Vera Robinson from N.U.R.S.E. said; “Graham has been campaigning for local council parishes to have automated defibrillators installed due to emergency service cuts and delays. Due to this campaign the N.U.R.S.E. Charity received requests for help. In total, N.U.R .S. E. has now provided seven automated defibrillators to the more remote villages in our region. Cherry Burton Sports Field received their defibrillator in March." James Slingsby, Chairman of Cherry Burton Parish Council said they had no problems in getting support from local people.
Mr. Slingsby said; “When we put it to the teams who use the facility they were all very supportive and asked what they could do to help us get one. We have signs leading up to the ground showing people where they can locate the defibrillator. I would like to thank N.U.R.S.E for their help in providing the defibrillator. I hope it won’t be required, but we have the comfort of it being available should an emergency arise.”
Mr. Stuart who is Defibrillator Champion has made an ongoing commitment to raise awareness and help get as many defibrillators as possible installed in his constituency. Commenting on his visits he said; “I hope by doing things like this it will help alert people to the fact this life-saving equipment can be found at these locations. When someone has a heart attack, every minute that passes sees their survival chance fall by 7% to 10%, so having a defibrillator to hand can make all the difference whilst an ambulance is on its way.”
Second Defibrillator for Sportsfield
A second defibrillator for the Sportsfield has been kindly donated by the N.U.R.S.E. charity based in Beverley who raise funds by organising quiz nights, fun runs and sponsored walks.
In addition all the sports clubs and the Baden Powell groups have supported this financially which has included giving a donation to N.U.R.S.E. in appreciation.
The defibrillator is situated on the west wall of the pavilion.

In May 2016 the Parish Council hosted a visit by the ERYC Street Scene Team to identify minor problems around the village such as potholes, overgrowth, damaged curbs, etc. Prioritised repairs will be agreed and carried out within budget limits: Village Taskforce Schedule within remit of ERYC taskforce team.
